Our region has a rich history - but unfortunately, working people's history and labor history is often not taught in schools.

Unions make your community stronger and are good for business According to Professor Harley Shaiken of the University of California-Berkeley, unions are associated with higher productivity, lower employee turnover, improved workplace communication, and a better-trained workforce. Prof. Shaiken is not alone.

The labor movement has always led the charge to protect working people from workplace injury, illness and death. Working with allies, we have won strong protections against hazards and stronger rights for workers. Through organizing and collective bargaining, unions have gained even stronger protections and rights that have given workers a real voice in safety and health at the workplace.

There is something fundamentally wrong with our economy. The rich keep getting richer while working people are working longer hours just to make ends meet. Despite year after year of increased productivity, we are not sharing in the fruits of our labor.
