Tell the legislature not to balance the budget on the backs of working people on April 2nd!
Updated On: Mar 27, 2025

Join TLM Labor President Rachelle Martin and the Health Care Is a Human Right WA coalition Wednesday, April 2 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM on the North Capitol Steps to demand that Washington state leaders reject budget cuts to essential services and instead pursue revenue solutions.  Washington is home to 13 billionaires and 17 Fortune 500 companies including Amazon, Costco, Microsoft and Starbucks. Join the call for fair taxation to support state workers, healthcare and other critical public services.

Speakers at the rally will address:

The Crisis at Hand - Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer. Federal actions threaten access to affordable health care and critical preventive services. Washington must act now to protect its residents against the impact of federal cuts and to address the need for universal health care.

No Cuts Raise Revenue - Rachelle Martin, President of the Thurston Lewis Mason Central Labor Council. The impact of state and federal layoffs is devastating. These are jobs that provide secure, living wages. Our budget shortfall should not fall on the shoulders of union members and working families.

Disproportionate Impact on Native Communities - Vicki Lowe, Executive Director of the American Indian Health Commission. Budget cuts hit Native American communities hardest, exacerbating existing disparities in health and services. The dismantling of federal agencies will harm health, education, and essential services that the federal government is legally required to provide. This damage will be compounded by prospective WA State budget cuts.

Progressive Revenue - Representative Natasha Hill of Washington’s 3rd LD is a champion for Progressive Revenue, and will be speaking on the choice between raising progressive revenue and balancing the budget on the backs of our most vulnerable.

The Case for Universal Health Care - A speaker from Whole Washington will speak to how a state-governed universal healthcare financing system would prevent exploitation and save billions annually.

Join us on Wednesday, April 2 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM to

  • Demand a budget that prioritizes people over profits and invests in a just future for all.

  • Advocate for essential healthcare bills and share personal stories to highlight the need for reform before the 2025 Legislative Session ends.

  •  Close tax loopholes and ensure the wealthiest pay their fair share to fund universal healthcare and critical services.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
