Thurston-Lewis-Mason Central Labor Council
What Is The PRO Act?
Posted On: Jan 17, 2022

The AFL-CIO, the state labor councils and our own Thurston-Lewis-Mason Central Labor Council are working to assure that everyone possible hears about what the PRO ACT would do for working people in America. Our Labor Council has financially supported the marketing of this bill in the States of Washington and Alaska because we really believe in it. You might ask yourself, what is the Pro Act? The AFL-CIO explains that:

Our nation’s labor laws are woefully outdated and have become ineffective as a means for working people to have our voices heard. But the most significant worker empowerment legislation since the Great Depression is now in the hands of the Senate. That bill, the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, is landmark worker empowerment, civil rights and economic stimulus legislation, and an essential part of any plan to build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic and recession.

The approval of the bill would support workers that try to organize and unionize their workplaces. With the implementation of the current laws many employers violate the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) of 1935 with impunity and the PRO Act would assure the right of workers to organize their election.
